An Unexpected Word

Something official came to us today, as we were expecting, and the official word was "no!" I was quite taken aback, not prepared for that response at all, with the information we had so far. Being as the Uganda program is so new, that information was very little. The committee of social workers that came together to discuss the kids and our app seems to have gotten recent information from Uganda making Kevin and Sheba an inappropriate placement for our family. I am not at liberty to share their story here, but they have faced, and do face, a very hard situation and Holt feels that international adoption into our family would not be right for any of us. We very much respect their wisdom and decision, knowing they know much more about the situation than we do, but it's still painful. We will continue to pray for the lives of these two kids, and always wonder about them. We hurt for them and their situation.

We knew at the outset that this new program would have its ups and downs, and probably hadn't considered this as one of them. We were even prepared for "never", but that's different than "no"! Now that we have the official word, we'll regroup, ask some tough questions, wait for the kids that God has for us, and probably be a little slower out of the gate next time. We've appreciated so much support this far, and so much excitement with us as we seek to follow the heart God has given us. Please continue to pray for our family, and for our new kids out there - whoever they are. We love them already!

And please, please, be in prayer for my brother Jeff and his family as they move into another year of waiting for their children from Liberia. They will be visiting Prince, Johanna and Steven this summer. Please take a moment and skip over to their blog to read about their own struggle with international adoption and the beautiful kids that wait for them.

  1. We love you guys and were praying that your adoption journey would be smoother than ours. When we started out, we thought we were in a sprint, but it has definitely been a marathon! We have done a lot of growing spiritually during the wait and I'm sure all of you will, too. Continuing to pray for your family.
